Invisalign™ has been rising in popularity over the past few years as it has become more accessible to the average person requiring orthodontic treatment. If you’ve wanted to straighten your teeth or been advised by a professional that you need braces, then you must be interested in knowing if Invisalign™ would be a good fit for you.

In this blog, we’ll be talking about the difference between traditional braces and Invisalign™ treatment.

A Common Goal

Traditional braces and Invisalign™ are similar in that they both share the same goal of correcting any alignment and spacing problems of your teeth. While both have the same final outcome, the braces and treatment process differ.

Traditional Braces

Metal braces are the most common way to correct your teeth. Consisting of either metal or ceramic brackets bonded to each tooth, a wire is placed through each bracket and tightened monthly throughout your treatment.

Pro’s

Traditional braces are able to correct any dental issue, even the most difficult of cases. The treatment is quite aggressive and accurate since braces are so strong in force. Because of this, traditional braces treatment also tends to be quite speedy.

Con’s

The main con of braces would be their aesthetic appearance since they are quite noticeable. In addition, it is also quite difficult to maintain good dental hygiene since there are more challenges when it comes to brushing and flossing.

Invisalign™

Invisalign™ is a much newer orthodontic technology, and the treatment basically involves wearing clear, plastic trays that have been 3D moulded to fit the shape of your mouth. Patients will receive new and tighter trays every 6 weeks of their treatment schedule.

Pro’s

The main appeal of Invisalign™ is that this treatment is almost invisible to peers. Another reason it’s such a popular treatment is that the trays can be removed to eat, drink or brush your teeth. As a result, patients are able to maintain better dental hygiene and more comfort.

Con’s

While being able to remove the trays helps with your dental hygiene, it may pose a problem if you lack the discipline to wear your Invisalign™ for the required treatment period. If left out for too long, the treatment process will be delayed, and you won’t get good results from it. It should also be noted that not all patients are good candidates for Invisalign™ treatment, and it costs more than traditional braces.

Which Option Is Best For Me?

The truth is that there is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to orthodontic treatments. While Invisalign™ is a popular option, other options may fit your goals and needs too, such as SPEED™ braces or Incognito™ braces.

Your orthodontist will be able to evaluate and advise which options are available to you. If you’d like a free consultation to determine your Invisalign™ treatment plan, please contact Dr. Kirk Bartlett’s office.
